NLA Awards 2025 –  a win for the Selby Centre

9 December 2025

It’s a real delight and source of pride that one of our biggest projects, the Selby Centre in north London, secured the ‘Culture’ award at the 2025 NLA Awards last month. These celebrate the best examples of design and placemaking from across London – a city that is leading the movement towards community-focused development.

The Selby Centre is the first phase of the Selby Urban Village masterplan, representing an ambitious investment by Haringey Council and the Selby Trust in the local area. Extensive community engagement has guided the development of proposals for this site, which include a new community centre, new sports facilities, over 200 new council homes and a new park. The scheme was granted planning permission in Spring 2025.

Work on the Selby Centre relocates this important civic space to the heart of the site, amidst the Bull Lane playing fields, in a new, purpose-built community building. This has been designed to reflect the community’s needs, providing spaces for events, affordable workspace and childcare. The new Selby Centre will also support the revitalisation of the surrounding playing fields, with new sports facilities, space for recreation and access to nature.

Lewis Hubbard Engineering has led on civil engineering for this transformational project. Working in close partnership with Karakusevic Carson Architects and Adams and Sutherland, we have sought to realise a much more welcoming and environmentally-sensitive landscape around the Selby Centre, one that prioritises play, accessibility and the natural management of rainwater.
